Shugongyan, on the eleventh floor of Chunxi Road's Qunguang Square, is an immersive ancient-Shu dinner show. Dance theatre, acrobatics, long-spout-teapot performance and face-changing accompany the meal. It suits a full evening experience rather than a quick dinner.
Performance, costume and meal pacing
- A 90-minute narrative
- The roughly 90-minute, seven-act story ‘The Divine Bird Seeks the Sun’ includes ancient-Shu mythology, the poet and everyday Chengdu, with classical dance, acrobatics, tai chi, tea pouring and face-changing.
- Hanfu and styling
- Hanfu and styling are offered. We recommend allowing over an extra hour for changing and photographs; confirm what is included and any rental or photography charges.
- Dishes follow the acts
- Dishes correspond to performance chapters, with classical names and presentation. Lighting and show pacing may make the meal feel faster than a conventional restaurant.
Representative dishes menu
- Four-flavour cold starter
- A composed cold starter introducing several Sichuan flavour profiles.
- Mushroom and black-pork rib stew
- Mushrooms and black-pork ribs slow-cooked into a rich broth.

- Mapo-style sea cucumber
- Sea cucumber prepared with mapo flavours, one of the richer dishes in the set.
- Steamed bass and a sweet finish
- Steamed bass with spring onion provides a lighter course, followed by a peach-resin, lily-bulb and loquat dessert.
