Travel is not
a collection exercise.
I make guides for people who would rather understand a place than simply say they have seen it.
A real person.
A point of view you can trust.
我的中国
I'm MARIN, a Beijing local who lives and works in the city. I want to help you understand Beijing through its everyday streets and small routines—not just its famous landmarks. Slow China is my independent project for travelers who want practical context and an honest alternative to the standard checklist.
My Beijing base is a starting point, not proof that I have personally tried every recommendation. Each guide separates firsthand notes from desk research and tells you what still needs checking. A Beijing base is stated plainly; it is not presented as personal experience of every city or recommendation.
How I earn your trust
- I tell you where I am based, without pretending to be an expert on every Chinese city.
- 如实说明我生活的城市,不假装自己精通中国每一座城市。
A city is more than
its greatest hits.
It is the man opening his breakfast shop before dawn. The regulars sharing a park table. The particular way a neighborhood sounds at 4pm.
Those moments do not need to be turned into attractions. They need context, care and just enough practical guidance for a visitor to experience them respectfully.
Slow China turns that context into clear, self-guided experiences. You choose what interests you. You go independently. You leave room for the unexpected.
Local means lived in
I look for real routines, neighborhood places and city-specific experiences—not places presented as secret simply for marketing.
Specific beats exhaustive
I would rather help you enjoy one good morning than give you another hundred places to feel guilty about missing.
Guidance without a guide
Chinese names, map terms, ordering notes and realistic timing give you the confidence to explore without a tour group.
Trust needs maintenance
Published guides carry sources, source-check dates and an honest description of what remains uncertain. Check current details before making time-sensitive decisions.
Useful guidance starts with an honest scope.
Complete guides name what was checked, when the sources were reviewed and which details remain uncertain. Official links help you recheck current rules; a date never guarantees live prices, opening hours or eligibility. Corrections should include a specific place, the date observed and, where possible, a current source. Email support@slowchinaguide.com to report a change.
