A south-to-north route

Main gate and Daxie
Enter through the main gate, also labelled the west gate, see the Thatched Cottage plaque and continue to Daxie, where Du Fu's statue and couplets introduce the site.
Poetry History Hall and Chaimen
The Poetry History Hall presents editions and calligraphy; Chaimen recreates the modest entrance to the poet's residence.
Gongbu Shrine and Shaoling stele
Gongbu Shrine commemorates Du Fu alongside Lu You and Huang Tingjian; the Shaoling Thatched Cottage stele pavilion carries the calligraphy described above.
Thatched cottage
The cottage is described as a reconstruction of Du Fu's residence, with bamboo, plum and medicinal plants. Treat it as a commemorative reconstruction, not the surviving original building.
Flower Path, Daya Hall and north exit
Continue through the red-walled Flower Path to Daya Hall's murals and poet sculptures, then leave via the North Gate for the free Huanhuaxi Park.

Three places to linger

Flower Path
Red walls and green bamboo provide the site's signature contrast. We recommend 09:00–11:00 for softer light and fewer crowds.
The reconstructed cottage
Read the cottage alongside ‘My Cottage Unroofed by Autumn Gales’ to understand the poet's circumstances rather than treating it as a rustic backdrop.
Gongbu Shrine courtyard
Old trees, podocarps and couplets reward a quiet pause. We highlight the line about great principles and learning without a fixed teacher.

Getting there

Metro
We suggest Line 4 to Caotang North Road Exit B, about 900 metres to the main gate, or Line 13 to Dufu Thatched Cottage Exit C2, about 400 metres to the east gate. Verify current service.
Bus
We recommend bus routes 19, 35, 58, 82 and 165 to Dufu Thatched Cottage stop near the east entrance.
Car
For reference, six kilometres, 20 minutes and CNY 15–20 from Chunxi Road, subject to traffic and vehicle type.

Interpretation, insects and timing

Use interpretation
We recommend an audio guide for about CNY 20 or free audio through the official account. The poetry and historical context are central to the visit.
Bring small supplies
Bring water and a small snack to avoid higher on-site prices. Use insect repellent in the wooded grounds and carry rain gear and grippy shoes in wetter months.
Arrive early, not at last entry
We recommend arriving around 09:00 to avoid groups. Do not arrive at the seasonal last-entry cutoff, quoted as 17:00 in winter.
