Choose the west or south entrance before planning around cubs, quieter areas or the celebrity panda Hua Hua.

The panda base is large and hilly. We suggest two approaches: enter from the west for a quieter, largely downhill route, or from the south to prioritize Villa 6 and Hua Hua. Animal activity and cub viewing vary daily; no route guarantees a particular panda.

Tickets, hours and reservations

Seasonal hours
For reference, November–February entry from 08:00–16:30 with closure at 17:30, and March–October entry from 07:30–17:00 with closure at 18:00. Check the official notice for your date.
Ticket prices
For reference, CNY 55 for adults and CNY 27 for eligible students, with free entry for specified older visitors and children. Verify age, height and accepted identification officially.
Real-name reservation
Real-name reservations are required through the base's official WeChat account, with no on-site ticket window. Book one to seven days ahead and target morning entry for holidays.
Sightseeing vehicle
Quoted at CNY 30 for unlimited daily rides. The hills make this especially useful with children, older travellers or limited mobility; confirm its route and current fare.

West Gate or South Gate

West Gate: quieter route
From Line 3 Junqu General Hospital Exit B, walk to the bus stop and transfer to shuttle bus 409, quoted at CNY 2 and about ten minutes to the West Gate. For a car, we recommend the Yulei Road–Cuiwei Road bus stop, followed by roughly five minutes on foot.
South Gate: Hua Hua route
From Line 3 Panda Avenue Exit A, transfer to bus 408 for the South Gate; routes 87 and 655 are also listed.
Parking
We recommend Bolinghui underground parking for the west, with a shuttle onwards, and Yingying parking for the south, followed by about 15 minutes on foot. Spaces can be limited on holidays, so arrive early or use public transport.

Two one-way routes

West in, south out · 3–4 hours
West Gate → vehicle to Xingxing Nursery → Xinghan Hall → vehicle to Sun/Moon Nursery → Villa 1 → red panda area → Villa 6 → South Gate. Much of this route is downhill, with fewer visitors and a high concentration of pandas in the newer western area, helping you avoid the South Gate morning rush.
South in, west out · 4–5 hours
South Gate → Villa 6 → Sun Nursery → Moon Nursery → red pandas → vehicle to Panda Valley, including Lanyue and Mingyue halls → West Gate. This prioritizes the celebrity area but involves heavier crowds and more effort.

Key areas and respectful viewing

Xingxing Nursery
In the newer area, Xingxing Nursery is recommended for very young cubs, with glass-sided rooms for observing feeding and play. Whether cubs are visible and active depends on the day.
Sun and Moon nurseries
In the older area, these nurseries house cubs of around six months and younger. They are popular stops and can involve long queues.
Villa 6
Villa 6 is associated with Hua Hua and He Ye. We recommend Monday maintenance closures for Villa 6 and the Giant Panda Museum, except on holidays, with queues often exceeding an hour and a three-minute viewing limit. Confirm the actual opening and crowd-control rules for your visit.
Red pandas and Panda Valley
The red-panda enclosure lets you watch the reddish-brown animals moving among the trees. We recommend the seven indoor habitats at Panda Valley as a quieter later stop, when cooler afternoon temperatures may encourage activity.
Best time and etiquette
We recommend 07:30–10:00, when cooler conditions may bring outdoor feeding, climbing and play. From 11:00–14:00 many pandas rest indoors, becoming active again after about 13:30. No flash, shouting, glass tapping, feeding or throwing objects.
Hua Hua: early queue or a later attempt
For the best chance of prioritizing Hua Hua, we recommend the South Gate and joining the entrance queue before opening, around 07:00–07:20. If you do not want a long wait, skip the celebrity-focused rush or try after 13:30, when queues may be shorter. Neither timing guarantees a sighting.

Energy and what comes next

Wear for hills and insects
Wear comfortable, grippy shoes and bring water and insect repellent. We recommend drinking-water points. Do not underestimate the walking when pursuing a particular panda.
Return to the centre for food
We recommend staying around Chunxi Road/Taikoo Li, about 20 minutes by car to the base, with metro access and evening food options. Yan Qingshan hotpot, Kaojiang grilled fish and Hongxing Restaurant are options for a meal back in the centre; these are not on-site restaurants.
