The Crown Escalator connects Lianglukou with Caiyuanba as working transport and a recommended city experience. For reference, it is 112 metres long, rises 52.7 metres at a 30-degree slope and takes about two and a half minutes to ride. It also appeared in Better Days.
Location, fare and access
- Address and operating hours
- Crown Building, 107 Zhongshan Third Road, Lianglukou, Yuzhong. For reference, 08:00–20:00 on ordinary days and until 21:00 on statutory holidays. Maintenance and temporary changes follow on-site notices.
- Fare and dimensions
- A single trip is CNY 2, with free travel for children under 1.3 metres. The escalator is 112 metres long, rises 52.7 metres at a 30-degree incline and travels at 0.75 metres per second, with one up escalator, one down and one standby. It is described as Asia's second-longest single-rise hillside escalator. QR, cash and transport-card payment have been listed, but another note says the ticket machine accepts cash only; carry small change and check current payment options.
- Lianglukou metro and buses
- Use Lianglukou on Lines 1 or 3, Exit 3, for a roughly two-minute direct connection to the entrance. From Caiyuanba or Lianglukou bus stops, stand with your back to Chongqing Railway Station, turn left and cross the footbridge to the downward-escalator entrance.
Up, down and onward
- Downhill from Lianglukou
- Enter from Lianglukou Exit 3 for the long downward perspective and the slight sensation of weightlessness created by the slope and movement. Do not turn around, stop or walk against the escalator to recreate a Better Days shot.
- Uphill from Caiyuanba
- Entering from Caiyuanba, an upward angle emphasizes the 52.7-metre rise, while daylight through the transparent canopy creates the floating effect described. Try side-on converging lines mid-ride, a panorama from the top platform, an ultra-wide 'time tunnel' from the bottom, or layered buildings through the canopy. Pale or bright clothing contrasts well with the setting. Every composition must preserve balance and clear passage.
- Build a half-day route
- We connect this with Liziba, Testbed 2 and the Yangtze Cableway. You can also take the Jianxingpo steps for about ten minutes instead of a return ride. Match the plan to energy and operating times rather than collecting every stop.
Safety and luggage
- Hold the handrail
- The slope and sensation of speed require a firm handhold; those uneasy with heights can stand towards the inside. No reversing, stopping, turning for photos or walking on the escalator.
- Footwear and rain
- Wear non-slip flat shoes and take care on wet entrances and steps. Do not sacrifice balance for a photograph.
- Large luggage
- We advise using the adjacent stairs with large luggage to avoid obstructing others. With heavy bags or limited mobility, choose an easier transport alternative.
- Return fare
- A return requires another fare. Confirm the available cash, QR and other payment methods on site.
