Hongyadong after dark

洪崖洞

Enter at level 11 and work downhill, then choose your panoramic viewpoint. Do not pay for a supposed fast-track lane.

Hongyadong's stilted buildings are most distinctive after the lights come on. We recommend entering at level 11 and descending to level 1, with five external viewpoints. Lighting, reservation and shop hours change; none is promised year-round. It is not a film location.

Essentials and arrival

Address and admission
88 Jialingjiang Binjiang Road, Yuzhong District. Admission is free, with possible official mini-program reservations on holidays. Check the rule for your date rather than assuming walk-up access.
Opening, lights and timing
For reference, 09:00–23:00 for the complex, shops commonly 11:00–23:00, and lights from roughly 18:30, 19:00 or 19:30 until 23:00, varying with season and daylight. Arrive around 19:00 for blue hour with the lights. We recommend the night view after 19:30; crowds may thin after 21:30. A separate daytime trip just for the illuminations is unnecessary.
Arrive at the upper street
Use Xiaoshizi on Lines 1 or 6, Exit 5A or 9, followed by a roughly ten-minute walk to the level-11 entrance. For a panorama, walk from Grand Theatre station on Line 6 towards Qiansimen Bridge. If taking a car, use Cangbai Road at level 11 rather than the difficult, congestion-prone lower street at peak times.

A mostly downhill route

Levels 11 to 7
Start at the level-11 city terrace for bridge and river views, pass the design shops on levels 9–10, then see the Bayu-themed area on levels 7–8. Follow the current on-site directory.
Levels 4 to 1
Level 4 is our snack area for hot-and-sour noodles, sweet rice balls and lianggao, quoting about CNY 20 per person. Finish at level 1 on Binjiang Road with a close upward view of the buildings and a breeze off the Jialing, experiencing how both levels 1 and 11 meet city streets. Stay out of the roadway for photographs.

Five viewpoints

Qiansimen Bridge
A raised panorama of the complex, river and skyline. Keep pedestrian circulation in mind at busy times and do not obstruct the bridge for a photograph.
Jiangtan Park near Grand Theatre
A low-angle riverfront view with possible reflections. Riverbank conditions depend on water, weather and local controls; remain in safe, open areas.
Daijiaxiang cliff path
We recommend a quieter side view combining the complex and bridge. Watch slopes, steps and night lighting.
Across from level 1
An upward composition of the stacked buildings, with optional long-exposure traffic trails. Use a safe pedestrian area, never the carriageway.
Level-11 city terrace
Look over the city's stacked levels before starting the downhill route. There is no need to seek a paid lift or shortcut.

Practical night-visit advice

The lifts are free
We advise against touts selling CNY 10 fast-track, staff-only or express-lift access: the lifts themselves are free. Do not pay someone on the street to lead you in or sell you a supposedly faster way to use the ordinary lifts.
Spend selectively
Tourist-area gifts and food may carry a premium; we also caution against brightly coloured 'golden plums' sold on the street. Compare price, packaging and ingredients.
Wind, steps and nearby stops
Bring a light layer and grippy shoes for river wind, steps and uneven surfaces. Jiefangbei and Bayi Road snacks are about ten minutes away on foot after the night view; the cableway can also follow, subject to its own reservations and service.
