Line 2 passes through the building containing Liziba station, with the station and residential structures separated. The viewing platform is free, but riding Line 2 and respecting the residents above are equally important parts of the visit.
Structure, hours and street crossing
- Address and building layout
- 39 Liziba Main Street, Yuzhong District. Shops occupy levels 1–5, the station levels 6–8 and homes levels 9–19. The railway and building are structurally separate, with no shared columns and rubber vibration-isolation bearings, so residents are barely affected by train noise or vibration.
- Free platform
- The platform is free with no reservation. Rail hours are approximately 06:30–22:30, with trains every five to eight minutes; use the day's Line 2 timetable.
- Use the correct pedestrian route
- Use Line 2 Exit 1 and descend towards the viewing platform. For a car, navigate to 'Liziba Monorail Viewing Platform', not simply 'Liziba Monorail Station', which may send the driver to the station interior. The crossing outside was removed and physically separated from 13 October 2026, requiring pedestrians to cross at the Jialingxin Road junction. Vehicles cannot park on that section; use designated pickup and drop-off areas and follow current street signs.
Four ways to see it
- Official viewing platform
- Best for first-time visitors: stand in the recessed central part of the platform, switch a phone to its 0.5x wide lens and crouch for an upward angle. Align a hand or mouth with the distant train for the forced-perspective 'holding' or 'eating the train' shot. No VIP photography or access is needed; the effect comes from your own wide lens and position.
- Near Exit 3
- We recommend this very close trackside angle for train details and the visual impact of a train rushing past the building, with relatively fewer visitors. Do not leave public areas to get even closer.
- Lansheng Pavilion
- About 700 metres uphill from Exit 2, this viewpoint combines the railway, residences and river. Allow effort and time for the climb.
- Ride Line 2
- Ride Line 2 towards Yudong and look from a window near the front or rear. Visibility depends on the train, crowding and operations.
Photography and resident etiquette
- Choose a quieter time
- We recommend weekdays 08:00–10:00 or 14:00–16:00 for softer light, relatively fewer people and clearer frames. Expect sunset light around 17:30–19:00 and illumination after 19:00. Avoid weekends and holidays from 10:00–16:00, when a packed platform makes composition difficult. Light and crowds are not guaranteed.
- Stay safe and quiet
- Stay out of traffic and off barriers; do not lean into residents' windows to photograph or livestream. Homes sit above the station, so keep noise and intrusion down.
- No drones
- We recommend this as a no-drone area. Do not launch one; any exception requires the relevant authority and on-site permission.
