This note gathers our hotpot and shared-dish recommendations rather than treating separate venues or dishes as one restaurant. Butter, dried chiles and Sichuan pepper define much of the flavour, but our 'spicy without being harsh' description is subjective. Ask about heat levels and alternatives when ordering.
Four substantial Chongqing flavours
- Butter hotpot
- We recommend a rich beef-butter broth with tripe, duck intestine, aorta, sliced pork and braised pork intestine. Tian Bangbang and Chen Popo are neighbourhood-style examples, listed at CNY 60–80 per person. These are reference details, not a guaranteed bill or a reservation service.

- Gele Mountain chile chicken
- Crisp chicken pieces are hidden among dried chiles and Sichuan pepper. It is a dish to share for its aroma and heat, not a mild chicken entrée with the chiles treated as decoration.
